Montessori Room Leader

A Montessori Room Leader is responsible for the day-to-day running of a Montessori classroom and supporting both children and staff within the setting.

Room Leaders oversee a specific age group or classroom, helping to maintain consistent standards of care, organisation, and early years education.

This role is usually suited to experienced Montessori practitioners who are confident leading a team and supporting children’s development within a Montessori environment.

Key Responsibilities

Montessori Room Leaders are typically responsible for:

  • Managing the daily organisation of the classroom
  • Supporting, supervising, and guiding classroom staff
  • Maintaining an organised Montessori environment
  • Observing children’s development and supporting learning activities
  • Communicating with parents and carers about children’s progress and wellbeing
  • Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety, and nursery policies are followed
  • Supporting staff development and day-to-day teamwork

    Room Leader  Requirements

    Most settings look for candidates who:

    • Hold a recognised Montessori qualification, such as AMI, AMS, or Montessori Centre International, and/or a relevant Level 3 early years qualification
    • Have previous experience working in a Montessori nursery or school
    • Have a good understanding of child development and Montessori principles
    • Feel confident managing a classroom and supporting a team
    • Hold an enhanced DBS check
    • Have strong communication and organisational skills
