A Montessori Room Leader is responsible for the day-to-day running of a Montessori classroom and supporting both children and staff within the setting.

This role is usually suited to experienced Montessori practitioners who are confident leading a team and supporting children’s development within a Montessori environment.
Key Responsibilities
Montessori Room Leaders are typically responsible for:
- Managing the daily organisation of the classroom
- Supporting, supervising, and guiding classroom staff
- Maintaining an organised Montessori environment
- Observing children’s development and supporting learning activities
- Communicating with parents and carers about children’s progress and wellbeing
- Ensuring safeguarding, health and safety, and nursery policies are followed
- Supporting staff development and day-to-day teamwork
Room Leader Requirements
Most settings look for candidates who:
- Hold a recognised Montessori qualification, such as AMI, AMS, or Montessori Centre International, and/or a relevant Level 3 early years qualification
- Have previous experience working in a Montessori nursery or school
- Have a good understanding of child development and Montessori principles
- Feel confident managing a classroom and supporting a team
- Hold an enhanced DBS check
- Have strong communication and organisational skills
